Currently the bill establishes the paternity leave in ten days, eight added to the two in force, but we have been listening for weeks, before the presentation of the amendments to the Law of Gender Equality that are currently being processed and that will enter effective the next month of March, the request of the opposition parties to extend the paternity leave to one month.
Jesús Caldera, Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, ruled out the possibility of such expansion because "it is unfeasible, it would involve a large budgetary effort and there is not enough demand from parents", although does not rule out extending paternity leave to two weeks.
Social Affairs reveals its data, from January to September of this year, the parents' request for permission for the birth or adoption of a child has decreased by 0.33%. It seems a very low number to mention it, but we already know the politicians, who grab a burning nail. Other opposition amendments that also focus on reconciling work and family life include extending maternity leave to 20 weeks for the second child and 24 for the third, extending the pay of working mothers by 50 euros, giving bonuses to companies that install nurseries, the creation of services for the schooling of children from 0 to 3 years.
