Remember to save the medications after using them

In a house with young children, one of the safety recommendations to follow is Keep the medicines away from kids. Many children are treated in the ER every year for accidental drug intake, so it is not a strange case. In fact, drug poisoning is the most frequent in childhood.

And although we do have a safe place to store medications, we don't usually realize that, after using the medications (to take them ourselves or give them to children) you have to put them back in place. A mistake can cause us to leave the pills or syrup on the table for example, and at a time the little child will take it to "play."

But medications are not a game (or candy), so it is also convenient that we do not make a game when administering yours if they are bad. If we tell them that they are a candy, they will not hesitate to take them if they see them within their reach.

In this sense, it is also not advisable to administer medications in the dark, both to avoid confusing us with medicine or doses and not having to leave them where they do not belong.

An important moment of carelessness is the moment after administering the medicine, we have to remember to return the medicine to its place and make sure of it, which is not always simple (the child cries, we are in another room ...).

It is important not to let your guard down, with any type of medication (child or adult) because any drug is dangerous if it is not taken under medical prescription and in the correct dose. There are no harmless medications. Therefore, if we suspect that our child has had within reach and has taken any medication, we must call Emergency and take it to the nearest hospital.

Let us remember therefore that carelessness is not worth it, and prevention is better. We have to make an effort because we put our children in danger: medications should always be stored after use, in high cabinets and better if they are locked.
