Children watch more television in summer

According to the European Children's Television Observatory (OETI), children watch more television in summer. During the school season they consume an average of 133 minutes of television a day, a figure that increases up to 30% in summer, especially in the morning and evening hours.

When staying at home, children have more free time and much of that time is spent in front of the TV. Television is one of the first leisure activities of children, therefore there must be responsible control by parents, in terms of exposure time and content, since especially in summer, children are likely to stay watching TV until night.

Experts recommend not exceeding two hours of television daily, since it is a little stimulating activity and in excess, it has no desirable effects for proper development. It limits the use of only two sense organs: vision and hearing, it is a sedentary, solitary activity and it is also related to attention problems and can impair language acquisition and speech development among the smallest.

Television has a great influence among children, sometimes encouraging values and behaviors that we are not interested in learning. Even they are often exposed to content that does not respect the protected children's time zone.

It is not all negative, there are very fun and educational children's series, but it is important to have a control of the content they consume and the time our children spend on TV, especially in summer, when that time is increased.

As an alternative, and taking advantage of the good weather, we must encourage them to do outdoor activities, go to the pool, the beach, the park, enjoy with friends, read or take a walk, they are much more interesting options than spending almost everything The day watching TV.
