The possible relationship between the influenza A vaccine and narcolepsy

The end of the danger of the influenza A pandemic has been determined, which has passed more smoothly than the first threats made fear, but there has been a campaign of mass vaccinations quite controversial. A new investigation, opened by the Swedish Medicines Agency, has now emerged relate the vaccine to at least six cases of narcolepsy in that country.

Apparently six doctors have reported new cases of narcolepsy produced shortly after vaccination and seems to indicate that it may be a side effect hitherto unknown. So far there is no evidence of the direct relationship between vaccination and narcolepsy, but having developed it is considered necessary to open a deeper investigation.

The Swedish Medicines Agency has begun to request information from other countries, to coordinate a more extensive investigation at European level, where it is estimated that 30 million people have been vaccinated. In France, it is also being investigated as a clear increase in cases of narcolepsy in children and adolescents has been reported.

We will remain attentive to research and progress in this field, as the possible relationship between influenza A vaccine and narcolepsy in children and adolescents.
