A 14-year-old girl creates an app to help Alzheimer's patients remember their loved ones

He Alzheimer's It is the most common form of dementia, and according to WHO information, it is estimated to represent between 60% and 70% of all cases of dementia. This disease has a strong impact, not only on patients, but on family and friends, as it affects social relationships strongly. Only those who have someone who suffers from it will know the sadness they experience when they see that those people who love them so much have forgotten them.

Although there is no cure for Alzheimer's disease, research is currently being carried out to find its cause and also, in the creation of supports and tools that help make living with this disease not so difficult. This is the case of a girl, who has created an application to help your grandmother with Alzheimer's not forget her.

Timeless, the application to help Alzheimer's patients

Emma Young is a brilliant 14-year-old girl, who since she was 12 began working on an application to help people with Alzheimer's. It all started when Emma was seven years old and noticed that her grandmother was beginning to forget some things, like confusing your granddaughter's age and forgetting her family members.

When Emma was 12 years old and having learned programming, she began to lock in an application she called "Timeless"(eternal or timeless), whose purpose was to revive and keep those eternal moments that were lived next to loved ones, so that Alzheimer's patients were always present.

The application will help patients identify their loved ones through facial recognition, as well as reminding them of daily tasks or activities. Within the application, individual profiles are created for each family member, with their names, age, kinship and other important information.

In case the person with Alzheimer's does not recognize or know who they are talking to, when taking a photo with the application and using facial recognition, they may immediately have the necessary information explaining who they are and the link they have with them.

Another function of the application, will be to receive daily or as often as the family decides to send them, updates with pictures of what your family members are doing, to see what your loved ones do and keep each one's profile updated.

The application is designed so that the person who takes care of the Alzheimer's patient supports him when using it, and will help you write down the tasks and activities of the day, as well as adding people who are in contact with the patient.

Emma is currently 14 years old and is raising funds in Indiegogo to reach the 50 thousand dollars needed to launch the application to the market.
