The video below shows how a girl, suddenly and as anticipating her future, is subjected to all kinds of images and messages referring to beauty and what is considered necessary in a woman, especially when she grows up. And it is that in the video, which links to the page of a campaign for real beauty (which does not work) and self-esteem, all the impacts that our daughters will receive, especially girls, are anticipated although it could adapt to boys without problems , and that can condition their development.
Therefore, and although the comments of the video seems propose to increase self-esteem of the kids to overcome these challenges, in my opinion I think what you have to encourage is self-control. And it is necessary to encourage children to know and discover although marking clear limits and especially explaining them so that they do not fall into the same mistakes as previous generations. Children have to have autonomy to know, train, prepare and build critical vision to make decisions and choose what they want when they are adults. Seeing this waste of imagination in the form of images and videos to sell us an idea of beauty, we have to be able to explain other references where to find people or beautiful things and thus help them to relativize, to put these images in a context that takes away strength and importance.

I am not in favor of prohibiting, although I would not be surprised if someone raised it. I find it more reasonable to explain ideas of beauty, own experiences or of other people referred to these concepts and, yes, talk a lot with the kids, and share your concerns to anticipate unwanted behaviors.
